I was approached last month to help re-design and host a website for Bay Tree Wine Co. A wine company based in Cardiff’s iconic Grade II listed building, The Maltings. They have an array of wines from around the world and vast knowledge about them.

After an initial meeting over Zoom, I began creating some designs based on their brief which was clean, modern, easy to use and to have a shopping cart that would work on mobile and tablet.

With some feedback from the initial designs, I began creating the website and gave the client access to be able to upload products and content to the pages. In the meantime I was working on the design and functionality of the site.

Some of the functions needed were a 6 bottle minimum order, a mixed case order option, allow customers can register for an account and for it to be mobile and tablet friendly.

Designing things for myself and my brand I have often struggled with.

I am comfortable with creating things for other clients as I have always done in my career. However, given the task of setting up on my own, creating a logo, brand and a website was a daunting task.

I started with my logo which I have had for a few months and this also gave me a colour palette to use. These I used to design my flyer and business card.

The difficult part was to design my website……………MIND BLOCK!

A Few years back, local band Sankara contacted me to ask if I was interested in designing a future album cover for them. After completing and maintaining their website for nearly a year and creating posters for them in the past, they liked my work and felt I could do the job.

They gave me some demos from the new album and the brief was open to what I thought the album was about and what feeling it portrayed.

After listening to the demos for a few days, I began playing around in Photoshop with some initial ideas. A few days of experimenting with concepts, I ended up with having between 15-20 different designs. Some were stronger than others, but I felt that if I sent the band more of my initial ideas then they can pick a few that they like and I would then have a direction that the band sees the album progresses.
